Success Stories

Mandy's Story

Before I came to Anchor I was living in a residential care home that was staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week.  This was called The Regard Partnership.

Initially I moved out of my parents to be more independant like my two brothers were.  I decided while I was at Regard that I wanted to be more independant and voiced this to my care manager.

My care manager said that she thought this was a good idea and she would find out what was available. I waited a couple of months and got back in contact with my care manager who said that she had found a good company that would help me be independant.  In June 2006 the residential house shut down and I moved to a new support company called Anchor Support Services.

I met the managing director of Anchor, Marian, and asked loads of questions and she was happy to answer them.

I moved to Livingstone Road in Gillingham and was supported by staff members of Anchor: Kay, Kerry, and Graham.  They helped me with the basic skills to be independant like budgeting my money, food shopping on a budget and lots of social activities.  I moved out of Livingstone Road to Curlew Crescent, Strood where I was supported by different staff members of Anchor, Sharon and Lauren, who helped me be more independant with things like cooking and using a bus.

I used to always wear a cap as I could hide my face if I felt insecure or uneasy.  As the staff have helped me build my confidence up my cap has been taken off some of the time.

The staff at Anchor have helped me fulfill a dream that I thought I would never be able to do and that is to go out in the community without my cap on.

I owe a very big thankyou to the staff members of Anchor: mainly Marian, Janet, Kerry, Sharon and Lauren who have helped me build the confidence to go out in the community without my cap.

My dream for the future is to live in my own little flat with the support and be more confident within the community and be able to make the right choices in my life.

I am hoping that the staff at Anchor will help me achieve this goal.

Linzie's Story - The role of a Team Leader

My name is Linzie Chadwick and I'm one of the team leaders at Anchor Support Services Ltd within the Strood area. I have been with the company for 7 years now. Part of my role is to encourage tenants to develop or gain new daily living skills. This can be done by offering advice and support with finding work or a college placement in their chosen vocation and also supporting them in learning new skills around the house, which could range from taking a telephone call to cooking a full roast dinner. The rewards of this are endless but it is a great pleasure to watch their self esteem and confidence grow.

I also work closely with my staff team to ensure that the highest quality of support is being delivered. Making sure that we are promoting the tenants rights, independent living and choices and that they are at the centre of every thing that we do.

We offer staff regular staff meetings and supervisions so they can discuss their views and concerns. This helps assist with making sure we work hard as a team to deliver the best service and offering them support, advice and the recognition they deserve.
